Experience unique training programs in Africa
Our Partner is a passionate environmentally-concious company specialising in the training of nature-guides and those with a deep appreciation of the natural world. However, we do more than just train; we provide participants on our courses with amazing life-changing experiences which open up their minds to the fragility of the planet on which we live. Courses are run in simple unfenced bush camps in the middle of great wilderness areas where participants get to truly experience what it is like to live in wild places. Our mission is to educate people on the importance of wilderness and especially the processes which drive the natural ecosystems of the world. Our hope is that participants, armed with this knowledge, leave our courses and go out and make a difference to the way we look after our planet in their day-to-day lives.
Our training projects run in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya and Zimbabwe.
You will be based in camps in prime wildlife areas 24/7 and partake in wilderness walks or game drives twice daily. Depending on the course you enrol on, you will be trained on up to 4 different game reserves, exposing you to a diversity of habitats and species.
This comprehensive and unique ONE YEAR course has been designed to supply the safari industry with qualified professional field guides. This course is however not only available to people wishing to enter the industry as field guides, but for anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of the African bush.
Although this course forms the foundation for a career in field guiding, many participants enrol onto this course for a gap year experience or extended bush holiday. Participation within the group and towards the care of the camp, the equipment and game vehicles, will be expected and assessed. Learners will learn the importance of paying attention to one another’s needs and safety, being responsible for each other in the wilderness, while working in teams.
The aim of this course is to develop and practice skills and knowledge learnt on the FGASA Level 1 course, while at the same time increasing your environmental knowledge and situational awareness.
It is also open to anyone who wants experience or opportunities of walking in a wilderness area and improving personal skills.
You will get the chance to learn the traditional art of tracking. You will also get a glimpse into ancient skills taught by local African experts as we aim to restore this indigenous knowledge by engaging with some of the last true indigenous experts.
The Safari Guide training course aimed at those wishing to experience a bush holiday, whilst also learning about the environment they are in. 28 days of living and learning in nature at our wilderness camps will provide you with the practical and theoretical knowledge of the natural environment.
The EcoQuest course consists of two components – learning about the fascinating large and small elements of nature and experiencing some of the activities and daily experiences of a safari guide. And on top of it all, we show you how to drive a 4x4 vehicle, to identify birds, plants, trees, tracks and how to track animals.
The course is catering to those who wish to learn the basics of bird identification or improve their existing identification skills. Although there are some lectures, it is very much a practical course with hours spend out in the field to learn how to successfully identify birds by both sight and sound.
The Wildlife Photography course aims to reveal more of the thought processes behind the making of good wildlife photographs. And at the same time will give photographers time and opportunity to put these thoughts into action in the field under the guidance of an experienced photographer. Participants will spend mornings and afternoons in the bush looking for photographic opportunities followed by a lecture each day and constructive criticism of any digital photos taken during each activity.
This unique course provides a perfect platform for aspirant or qualified guides or nature lovers, to discover and reconnect with meaningful wilderness encounters. The emphasis of the course lies on meaningful wilderness philosophy, tracking, low impact guiding skills and bushlore. The adventures are instructed by some of the most experienced trainer/guides in Africa.
A deposit of 7180 ZAR is required for booking.
Our organization is the first formal nature-guide training company in Africa. Since 1993, we have trained more than 4 000 people, young and old, from all over the world and from many walks of life.
We have trained in Australia and all across the African continent from South Africa to Gabon and from Kenya to Namibia. We are particularly proud of the work that we have done with local people, from communities in Gabon, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia and Kenya, providing them with the skills required to get them jobs in eco-tourism.
