Our Medical Electives in India aim to give medical students international clinical experience that will enhance your professional and personal development.
Based in Palampur, Dharamsala, you will be practicing your field in a multi speciality hospitals that cater to the locals of the area. You might specialise in one area or divide your time across multiple departments assisting local doctors and medical staff in the work that they do. You will learn about the differences in healthcare systems, procedures and treatments in India in comparison to your country. Your medical placement will allow you to conduct research and learn about illness and diseases in India. If you already are a qualified medical or health professional you may be allowed to work independently.
Whilst you are on this medical placement you will also get to work in village areas of Kangra district where healthcare and medical aid is difficult to find. Here you can conduct outreach work and run clinical and health camps with local doctors or medical staff. Health camps involve health screening clinics for adults and children at various establishments, e.g. day-care centres, schools and orphanages. All medical materials and supplies are given for this. You can expect to help with medical checks such as blood pressure, sugar levels, blood groups or general checkups. If you are specialising to be a gynaecologists, paediatricians, ophthalmologists, or dermatologists we can also arrange specialist camps that would benefit the village greatly and where you can practice your field.
Many locals in the area tend to opt for natural or traditional medicine treatments of Ayurveda and Naturopathy. You can also learn about alternative therapy, treatments and their effects with specialists in this field : panchkarma, yoga, meditation, acupressure.

“Our Medical Electives give students of medicine an opportunity to experience healthcare in completely different environment. We firstly provide children and community members an opportunity to better themselves and increase their self confidence through the help of education, art, health, construction and sports project volunteers. Secondly we develop unique and safe travel packages that offer learning, adventure and fulfilment to any traveller coming to India.
We are committed to providing an extraordinary experience, along with responsible and safe travel options to individuals who seek to get more out of their holiday. Whether it’s leading a workshop in the community taking the lead on a building project or standing at the front of a classroom and teaching English , our volunteers will be helping to give underprivileged people in India the skills they need to improve conditions in their communities.
