Brisbane/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast
Are you interested in a Working Holiday Visa, Brisbane? In that case, while you are living in Australia, you should make yourself familiar with the centre of Brisbane itself, which is a small town on the doorstep of Queensland and a few miles from the most beautiful beaches in Australia. The coast is divided into two parts: the Gold Coast, to the south of which, you will find Surfers Paradiseand a few overrated resorts. The Sunshine Coast, meanwhile, is far more authentic and better for surfing.
The main Brisbane attractions include Moreton Island, a small tropical island where you can spend a very pleasant day, diving and feeding the dolphins in the late afternoon. Alternatively, visit Australia Zoo, located around one hour north of Brisbane (Greyhound organises return day-trips from Brisbane), where you can watch a crocodile show, pet a koala or a Australia/MAG/volontariat-kangourou-Australie-2 and learn more about Australian flora and fauna.
With its hippie vibe and beaches as far as the eye can see, Byron Bayis a surfing Mecca for those living in Australia. This is a compulsory stop where those on a Working Visa can chill out for a few days, take surfing lessons or practice some water sports. We lost our heart to the Art Factory Hostel; this is a 10 minute walk from the centre, where you will find yoga, dance, a small open-air cinema, free didgeridoo lessons and sporting activities, all in a family atmosphere.
Fraser Islandis the largest sand island in the world, and includes a host of natural wonders, including Lake Mackenzie with its turquoise waters and champagne pools. The adventure takes place in a 4x4 and a tent for 2 to 3 days. Nomads organises groups of 8 people, with a vehicle guide, leaving from Hervey Bay. You are given a vehicle, camping equipment, instructions for shopping, pitching the tents (provided) and getting around the island. This is a true paradise where you can play at Robinson Crusoe, but be careful, as swimming is strictly forbidden. This is the sharks’ favourite hunting-ground and there are thousands of them!
Cunnamulla- If you are looking for a typical farm while on your Working Visa, stay in the Outback. It's possible to take a few day tour from Brisbane to find out more about rural life in Australia. There are daily departures with Greyhound Australia to Cunnamulla (6hrs journey).
